7 April 2016
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Students finish school on Friday 8th April and return on Tuesday 26th April.
ANZAC Day Service
We will conduct our ANZAC service at 9.00am on Friday 8th April, outside the undercover area. We would love to see as many students and parents attend to help mark our respect to those who fought and died in all wars.
All our School Council/Ministers will participate in the service along with all choir students as well as students who are members of the Guides and Scouts. Prior to the assembly at 8am, the canteen will be providing a breakfast which students have pre-ordered.
We will also be accepting contributions of flowers for wreaths. Please bring donations of flowers to school on the morning of Thursday 7th April.
Many thanks for your support.
Swimming
Swimming starts for Years 1, 2 & 4 on the first day back next term, Tuesday 26th April. Please ensure payment has been received at the office by the end of this week.
Kiss and Drive
Thank you to all the parents and students who are using the Kiss and Drive so well now, the improvement in the flow of the traffic is great. The P&C are still however looking for some volunteers who can spare a half an hour of their time, once a week to assist at the Kiss and Drive. It cannot continue without the volunteers and they need 4 more people to assist, please give it a try.
New Principal
We welcome our new Principal, Tony Beswick, who has been appointed to the position starting next term. Tony will bring to our school a wealth of experience and knowledge. He is looking forward to meeting and working with the Landsdale Primary School Community.
I would like to thank all of the Parents and school community members, staff and students who have supported me so well during my time as Principal. I have enjoyed it greatly, learnt so much and am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing journey of Landsdale Primary School.
Thank You.
Regards,
Leanne White

Library News

Term 1 Library Borrowing Now Closed
Student borrowing has now closed for Term 1. All library books were due back on Friday 1st April. Please ensure that your child has returned his/her library book before school closes tomorrow. Students will not be able to borrow any more library books next term until their Term 1 loans have been returned. If your child has lost their library book, please advise their teacher, Mrs Murray or the Front Office.
Holiday Loans
Parents and students can borrow library books over the April school holiday break. These books will be due back on Tuesday 27th April. Please see Mrs Murray to arrange your holiday loan.
Have a relaxing holiday break and we will see you back in the Library next term. Thank you to all our parents, staff and students who have patronised the Library this term. It has been a fabulous start to the year.
P&C President’s Report
I would like to say a big thank you to Melissa George for taking on the position of Secretary. This means all officeholder positions have now been filled. We are still looking for a Fundraising Coordinator if you or someone you know may be interested.
The next meeting for the P&C is being held on Tuesday 10th May at 7:30pm in the school staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend so please come along.
KISS 'N' DRIVE
Kiss 'n' Drive seems to be going well at the moment and most parents using this service are doing the right thing and following the directions of the wardens. Thank you to those parents who do use Kiss 'n' Drive correctly. We are still in desperate need for volunteers for this service to be able to run. A big thank you to all our current volunteers and a special thank you to Debbie Glasson for her time and effort by stepping in when no other volunteers are available.

Uniform Shop News
The Uniform Shop will be open on Friday 6th May from 8.00am until 8.45am.
Interested in Becoming A Safety House?
Safety House is a community based "Good Neighbour" program of volunteer householders. It's easy to be a Safety House, it costs you absolutely nothing and you could be doing something important to help protect vulnerable young children. You can make a difference in your local community.
Who can be a Safety House?
- A Safety Householder must be a caring adult who is usually in or around their home during school travel time and be ready and willing to assist any child who might seek help at their door.
- Your house must have easy street access to the front door, no screening walls or trees and a Safety House sign easily visible from the street.
- Before you can be a Safety House, everyone living in the house aged 14 and over must consent to having a continuously monitored police check which is fully paid for by Safety House.
If you are interested or have any queries, please contact Sally Pellegrini, Landsdale Primary's Safety House Coordinator, at sally.pellegrini@gmail.com or leave a message at the school office on 9302 4100.
School Banking at Landsdale Primary School!
Since the beginning of 2016, we have had approximately 20 new students enrol in the school banking program. This program teaches our kids to become regular savers and also helps the school at the same time as the Commonwealth Bank gives the school a commission for each new student who signs up and commission for each and every deposit that each child makes.
We are still in need of volunteers between 8am and 9am on a Thursday morning to reduce the amount of times each volunteer is needed throughout the term.
If your child is interested in signing up for the School Banking Program, this is the procedure:
- Take your child's birth certificate (and some ID for yourself) to any Commonwealth Bank. The bank will set up an account for your child when you are there.
- Bring your child's account number to school banking with a deposit (if you wish) and they will be assigned a student number by one of our volunteers and given their own deposit book and cover.
- Each week, the child may deposit as much (or as little) as they like. For each deposit made, the child receives a silver token. When they reach 10 tokens, they are eligible for a reward.
Just to make parents aware, siblings of children who attend Landsdale Primary School are eligible to begin school banking as well. Just follow the same procedure as above.
If you have any questions about the School Banking Program or you would like to help on occasion, please contact Amanda Ferguson at anferguson1977@gmail.com or alternatively on 0402 179 511.
