From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
The school has a target of bringing our maths results to equal to or be above state averages. To do this, we are concentrating on improving mental maths strategies. A baseline of student knowledge was created by many students being tested on giving quick answers to basic facts. The maths leadership team attended a workshop presented by Dr Paul Swan, a leading expert in engaging students in mathematics. Teachers also have access to Stepping Stones on-line material to help construct lessons. This all adds up to the school making a concerted effort to improve maths results.
The senior playground for Year 5 and 6 students is near completion. However, we are waiting for the tailor-made ropes for the climbing frames. This, apparently, is going to take some time as they are coming from the Eastern States. Please bear with us.
I have noticed that some parents are using the roundabout adjacent to the school as an alternative ‘kiss & drive’ pick up zone. This is a very dangerous practice and I request that the proper ‘kiss and drive’ be used.
Also, some other parents are using the service road as an alternative pick-up zone. This has caused congestion and, subsequently, is dangerous.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

The 1-1 Laptop Program
At Landsdale, we are working to create a realistic environment for learning; an environment where students are able to create, collaborate, share and explore in a safe and motivating way. The variety of engaging activities that a laptop provides beyond mere production makes it the ideal learning tool for all students. Furthermore, parents and students have enjoyed the opportunity to share in their child’s learning through the access to laptops at home as well as school.
We believe that combining our strong whole school focus on numeracy, literacy and STEM with the access to the connected environment of a personal device to use when needed any time of day or night will give Landsdale students the best educational experience possible. Parents who purchase a laptop for their child are making an excellent investment in their child’s future.
The parent support for this program has two major benefits. Firstly with the majority of parents providing a laptop it enables us to purchase a small bank of laptops for students who are unable to provide their own laptop, all students are then able to learn essential digital skills and have an understanding of the ethical use of technology. The second is that the school can expend effort on providing a better infrastructure for the ease of access to vital resources to provide the learning experiences that challenge and enhance students learning.
If you haven’t already purchased a laptop for your child and are considering it, you are never too late. The Winthrop portal link on the school website is open all year or if you can find a special deal or pre loved Apple laptop your child can bring it in.
In past years, when there has been a split year 3/4 class parents of the year three students have asked to join the program. Due to the students undertaking many common learning tasks in a split year level, we are happy for the year 3 students to bring a laptop too. The choice lies with the parents, the program is not normally available for the year 3 students.
If you have any questions or require further information please contact me.

Landsdale Primary School’s New Chaplain
Hello Landsdale Primary School Community,
My name is Natasha Reynolds and I am the new school Chaplain. To some of you, I am not new at all, I have just been on an extended holiday and I am back again! To those who are new to the school over the last two years, I was the school Chaplain for a few years and left to go to Scotland where my husband got a wonderful career opportunity. Now we are back and the timing was perfect to reapply for the Chaplain role here at Landsdale Primary School.
I am at the school on Mondays and Tuesdays and if I am in the office with my door open, please feel free to come and say hi.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and saying hi to some familiar faces!
Chat soon,
Natasha

One Big Voice Performance at Perth Arena
This year, Landsdale Primary School has been given the exciting opportunity to perform in the annual One Big Voice Performance at the Perth Arena on 18th August. This is a non-competitive massed choir involving thousands of students from across WA. Both choirs will work towards this event throughout terms 1, 2 and 3, along with performing at our usual annual events. This term choirs will also be working towards the annual ANZAC Day Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, April 6th. Due to the choirs’ participation in this event, students will not be permitted to to join or leave the choirs until after the performance (18th August). Student numbers will be finalised in Week 3 of Term 1. For this reason, please consider your child’s involvement carefully, and discuss with them the commitment involved. There is still time for your child to join the choir if they would like to participate.
http://www.onebigvoice.com.au/
All choir students wishing to participate in the Once Big Voice Performance must return the attached form to the office as soon as possible, and attend the next upcoming rehearsal.

P&C President’s News
I just want to thank everyone who came to the AGM and the General Meeting. There are still positions vacant such as fundraising coordinator and school banking coordinator. Without people to volunteer their time to fundraise, it will impact all fundraising activities throughout the year that can benefit your child. If you’re able to spare any time at all, please feel free to contact me. The next P&C meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th March at 7.00pm in the school’s staff room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Entertainment Books 2017 – Looking for Corporate Partners
Planning is underway for the Entertainment Book fundraising for 2017. One great way to fundraise is to get corporations and businesses involved.
Do you work for or know a corporation that might like to support Landsdale Primary School?
They can help support Landsdale Primary School by purchasing the 2017|2018 Entertainment Edition for their staff or clients with $14 from every book going directly to our fundraising
Included:
- 2017/2018 EntertainmentTM Membership (Book or Digital Edition)
- Branding on the book with their corporate logo
- Delivery on volume orders
- Optional gift wrapping
- Expiring June 1 2018, their gift will not only provide a year of incredible experiences and savings for their staff or clients, $14 from each membership will support Landsdale Primary School.
Past corporations that have got involved for other community groups include real estate agents that buy the books and then give them away to clients who buy into the area as a 'Welcome to this suburb' package. What a great idea!
So please contact someone you know on the P&C or me Aberline 0403 129438, aberline.attwood@dpaw.wa.gov.au if you know of any corporates that might like to support our school (and get their logo on the front cover of the books they giveaway!).
See the attached for more information.
Please see the attached information.
School Banking at Landsdale Primary School!
Get involved in the School Banking program.
Landsdale Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2017 are:
- Cyber Handball
- Colour Change Markers
- 3D Chalk Set
- Tablet Case
- Smiley Emoji Keyring
- Volt Handball
- Pencil + Tech Case
- Epic Earphones
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit below and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
http://www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is every Thursday morning from 8-9am. Each week, just bring your money and deposit book to the Junior Primary Block where LA11 and LA12 are located.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit
