From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
An exciting moment for our senior students last Friday week, as their new nature play space was officially opened. While the younger students looked on with disappointed faces, the Year 5 and 6 students were enjoying the new attractions, including climbing nets, a spinning machine and the most popular piece of equipment, the pod swing. The space will also be used during class time for daily fitness and circuit training.
Congratulations to the P and C on a very successful and well managed Mother’s Day stall last Friday. There were some amazing gifts bought for the bargain price of $3.00. Thank you to those families who contributed to the stall, and I hope all mums had a lovely Mother’s Day.
Kiss and Drive is running well at the moment, thanks to parents remembering that parking and prolonged stopping is not permitted. If you are collecting your children from Kiss and Drive, please remind them to be watching out for you, and if you intend to be there early, tell them to also be on time. To avoid waiting in the queue, the best time to arrive at Kiss and Drive is around 3.15-3.20pm. Most students have gone by then and cars are able to pull straight in.
Reading fluency assessments have been continuing again this year. The results over the past three years show that in each year level, students are showing increased fluency rates than the same year level did the previous year. If you have not received a note from your child’s teacher this year with a current rate of reading fluency for your child, please make contact with him or her. Reading fluency is directly related to reading comprehension which is why this is a school priority, and an important area of your child’s reading to develop.
Parents are encouraged to continue listening to and reading to, their children every school night. Don’t forget that our library has the best range of literature and picture books to read and enjoy with your children. Parent reading tip sheets and early reading research information are available in the LEAP section of this newsletter.
Wishing families all the best for Term 2.

Chaplain’s Chat
Hi school,
I hope NAPLAN went well for everyone.
Being mindful of how someone else is possibly feeling and displaying compassion for them helps us in being friendly and working well together.
I love the new Buddy Bench, that was donated by Mrs Thompson, is such a great way for us to notice someone in need. I have seen how if someone goes and sits on the bench others are quick to go over and chat and most times go off to play together. Well done, I am so proud of you all.
In class or at home we need to see if someone is sad or feeling left out by their body language or words. Compassion is when we ask them if they’re okay, accept that they are having a bad day or moment and be there to help them, listen to them or play a game, hoping that they will be feeling better soon.
Let’s continue being compassionate and caring for others, seeing friendliness and working together being strong in our school.
Chat soon,
Natasha

2017 Mother’s Day Stall
Thank you to everyone who supported our Mother’s Day Stall this year, albeit with donations of gifts, wrapping, ribbon or sending your children to school with $3 to purchase a gift, it was fantastic to see all the children so excited to buy something special for you. We hope you all had a fantastic day celebrating with your kids!
We couldn’t have done it without our stall organiser Caitlin and her team of volunteer help last Friday, a HUGE thank you to each of you for giving up your time the weeks prior to organise it and during the day at the stall.
Be Roadwise
Kiss & Drive is facilitated by your P&C and it’s fantastic to see Kiss & Drive running smoothly and we have our children on their way home most days by 3.15pm. Thank you to all the parents using this facility taking the time to do so correctly. It makes for a pleasant end to the school day.
I’d like to also thank our new parent volunteer to Kiss & Drive, Kendra who has recently volunteered to help on Monday’s roster.
Please also look out for the verge non-parking areas around the school. Whilst we are all busy and need to drop/pickup our children to/from school, there are several designated no parking areas in the immediate area of the school that you should be aware of. Rangers are out often and will take note of those parking illegally. Parking can be found at Warradale Hall and Landsdale Forum, if you’re not able to locate one around the school.
If you are a new family to school or need to brush up on Being Roadwise, please read the attached flyer. You can also find a hard copy in the foyer at the front office.

Visiting Bali?
Dear Parents and Community Members,
As many of you are aware, Landsdale Primary School has a sister school relationship with a school in Bali which was established almost 10 years ago. Over the years we have been involved in many different activities such as fund raising and penpal exchanges. By far the most rewarding part of this partnership for Landsdale students has been when their families have visited our sister school on their Bali holidays.
The school is called SD 2 Kaba Kaba and it is around 20 kilometres, or a 45 minute drive, from the heart of Kuta. It is found in the regency of Tabanan, one of Bali's main rice growing districts.
If you would like to pay them a visit and find out what a day (or even an hour or two) in the life of a Balinese child is like, feel free to contact me and I can help you arrange it. Alternatively you can contact the coordinator in Bali, Alit Widia at alitwidia@yahoo.com and he can help you sort it out. Pak Alit speaks English very well and some students might remember him from his visit to Landsdale Primary School a few years ago. Rest assured you will be made to feel very welcome.
Terima Kasih!

School Banking at Landsdale Primary School!
Get involved in the School Banking program.
Landsdale Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2017 are:
- Cyber Handball
- Colour Change Markers
- 3D Chalk Set
- Tablet Case
- Smiley Emoji Keyring
- Volt Handball
- Pencil + Tech Case
- Epic Earphones
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. - In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is every Thursday morning from 8-9am. Each week, just bring your money and deposit book to the Junior Primary Block where LA11 and LA12 are located.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit the link below:
