22 March 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Thank you to the 160 families who voted in the school board elections. I declare the following people elected: Abby Attwood, Keera Bull, Stacey Newton-Pickles, Ben Scott and Debbie Yates. These board members are joined by Margaret Quirk and Nat Herridge, as members of the general community, and Chiragkumar Patel, as a member of the English as a second language background. Congratulations to all elected members. There were more nominations than places, which show that the board is held in high regards by our community.
The last few weeks have been exciting for students. Last week, we had accomplished author Justin Somper chatting with the Year 6 students for over an hour. Today we are celebrating Harmony Day and I would like to thank all those who sent multicultural food to the school to raise funds for UNESCO. It shows that you have opened your heart to address what is happening to the citizens of Syria.
The funds from the Colour Run are targeted at expanding the adventure playground so that more students can use the great equipment. More funds = more equipment for students. Please sponsor you child so that we can give more back to students.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Contributions and Charges 2018
Thank you to those parents who have paid their child’s contribution and charges for 2018. Monies collected from your contributions and charges enhance the learning program by the purchase of additional resources.
The In school activities component is a compulsory charge and must be paid for your child/children to participate in planned incursions. We would appreciate payment of the In school activity fee as soon as possible.
For your convenience, we accept Visacard and Mastercard (over the phone) and all EFTPOS transactions over the counter, along with cash and cheque. We also accept Direct Debit. The details are: BSB 066-132 Account 10249789 (Student’s Full Name must be included in the Reference).
Harmony Day Food Festival
Don't forget ... Harmony Day Food Festival today - Thursday 22nd March between - 10.30am and 11.05am at Landsdale Primary School.
For just 50c or $1, your child can enjoy a range of savoury and sweet foods from around the world.
Help your child enjoy the excitement of the colour, smell and taste of the world, right here in our undercover area by giving them 50c or $1 to spend.
Students can dress in their national cultural dress, or wear orange (the colour of Harmony Day). It is not a free dress day, so no gold coin donation is needed.
The money you spend for something yummy will go towards helping the children of Syria. A 7 year old child living there has never known peace - the war has raged for over 7 years.
Please support our students in their first Global Education project to raise funds for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund - (UNICEF). Last time (2014), we raised nearly $1000 in 30 minutes.
If your class is not directly involved in preparing a dish for the day, you are still able to help out by contributing a dish from any culture, or help out by setting up, supervising younger students handle change and serve food, recycle utensils at the washing up station or pack up. Helpers are needed any time between 9 and 12.
For more details, or to help, contact: Felicity, Possum Kindy, Rachel H LA 12, Mimma Della Gatta (EAL/D), or Ella LA 27 at school.
STOP PRESS: Watch this space too for the chance to buy a copy of the recipes and share the memories with photos from the day. We are hoping to publish our first Harmony Day recipe book including recipes, photos of the day, student illustrations, thoughts and writing. Sales will boost our fund raising for this important act of global citizenship.
Dogs
In the interest of children’s health and safety, dogs are NOT permitted on the school site.
Coles Sports for School Vouchers
We are collecting vouchers! Please drop off folded vouchers to the front office. The collection box is located just inside the front door.

School Colour Fun Run
Our school colour fun run is on in two weeks on Friday, 6th April from 2pm! It promises to be a great event, so make sure you have;
- Created a login for your child
- Started fundraising towards your goal
- A white t-shirt for your child to wear on the day
- Volunteered to help via the Just One Thing note
Remember, each child will receive a pair of coloured sunnies on the day to use and keep as a keepsake.
Changing the Game
A few weeks ago I attended a terrific seminar about parenting through sport entitled “Changing the Game: Parenting Through Sport”. The seminar spoke about giving children positive, healthy and rewarding experiences while playing junior sport.

Chaplain’s Chat
Easter Weekend over the next two weeks! I hope you all enjoy your long weekend!
For ourselves and especially our children – As the seasons change I was thinking about how our feelings also change, all the time. One moment we can be happy, the next moment we can feel sad or lonely or angry.
I thought about the I-Value “I am responsible” and how we can be responsible and help ourselves feel better when we are having a sad or lonely day or moment.
When you are feelings good, every things fine, think about what things make you happy?
A hug from someone you know and love, to cuddle your dog, to lie on your bed and sing to music or run around outside?
Write down some of the things that make you happy or things you can do to help you relax and keep it up on your mirror or next to your bed.
If we know what makes us happy or relaxes us, if it’s there in front of us, then we will be able to help ourselves when we are having an unhappy moment.
Chat soon,
Natasha

JUSTIN SOMPER VISITS OUR LIBRARY!
Prominent UK children’s author, Justin Somper, made an impromptu visit to our school last week. He kindly donated his time to come and speak to our Year 6 students about his career as a writer, his adventure series, “Vampirates,” and his inspiration for his life’s work. He fully engaged our students with his sea shanties and a sample reading of his novel. We would like to commend our Year 6 students for their attentive listening and participation, as well as their excellent questioning skills. Justin’s visit was initiated by Ms Kendra McDonald and her son, Lucas F, who really enjoyed reading Justin’s “Vampirates” series. We’d like to thank Kendra and Lucas for making this wonderful event possible. The “Vampirates” series is available for borrowing from our Library.
