24 May 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
For the second year in a row, the wonderful P&C has given funds to the school to run a special maths project for Year 2 students that is focused on improving basic maths facts recall. This sets the students up for success in future years.
We have planted some marri trees on the eastern side of the school to begin the creation of a micro-climate around the adventure playground that will eventually offer shade. Co-incidentally Carnaby cockies love feeding on marri tree nuts.
Our brilliant Year 6 teachers have involved their classes in a Scitech STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) enrichment project. We are looking forward to involving parents and families in this exciting project. Furthermore, we have a range of in-school activities on this term. How exciting!
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Legends of Landsdale – Cross Country Event

Incursions
Each year students are invited to attend a range of educational incursions that are booked, either for the whole school, or for year level or class groups.
To date this year, students at Landsdale PS have had the opportunity to attend one in-school performance by KA-BOOM Percussion.
In Week 5, on Tuesday May 29th – Thursday May 31st, all students in Years 1 – 6 will have the opportunity to attend a presentation by James Foley, who is an acclaimed children’s author.
The payment for all incursions is drawn from the In-School Activity charge of $30.00 that each student is required to pay at the beginning of the school year, levied to cover the cost of all incursions and performances that occur throughout the year.
If you have not yet paid the In-School Activity Charge for 2018, this may be paid directly to the office by cash, Eftpos or by direct debit (Account Name: Landsdale Primary School, BSB: 066-132, Account No. 10249789, Reference: Student Name). Alternatively a payment of $4.00 may be made to cover the cost of the next presentation. If you are unsure about your current payment status, please call the ladies in the front office, and they will be able to assist you.

P&C President’s News
We had a super productive meeting on the 15th May, thanks to all those who came!
We created 2 new committees, one for the Canteen and the other for the 20th Anniversary Fete for next year. We also approved more items on the wish list!
$1,300 towards Junior Maths Mastery workbooks & $3,000 for Mr P to run this year’s Faction Carnival! This includes helping with all of the ribbons and awards for the day and the use of equipment. It's a brilliant effort and we're proud to support it once again.
An additional unanimous vote to approve extra funds together with those made from the Colour Run will fund an amazing $20,000 committed to the school to help in funding the extension of the nature play area! It's a “watch this space” as we are as excited as the kids to see this project get underway.
20TH ANNIVERSARY SCHOOL FETE
We need help! The organisation of fetes are the fruition of a lot of dedicated hard work and we need a brilliant bunch of people to help steer this enormous task on its way. If you would like to be involved please email Sally lpspandcsecretary@gmail.com or text Nat 0403 326 828. We need help of all kinds, co-ordinating is just one aspect but we will also need hands on the ground to help with games, stalls and the like! It’s a great community event to be involved in.
CANTEEN COMMITTEE
Your Canteen needs you! We are looking for 2 friends to help us support the canteen in its daily duties. If the odd job of washing, photocopying & help in planning special menus, etc. sounds like you, please contact Sally on lpspandcsecretary@gmail.com
EASTER RAFFLE
2018 Easter Raffle was a fantastic success!
A HUGE thank you to all the families who donated towards the Easter Raffle, we were truly amazed at how many we had! 108 raffle items were won during the week from Kindy to yr 6, which makes for some very happy kids over Easter!
Another THANK YOU to our parents who volunteered to help us sell raffle tickets on the day. Without you we wouldn’t have had such a huge success, thank you to you all! This year Kim from Pre Primary offered to team up with some mums and wrap the gifts for us. This level of help is immeasurable; it’s a big undertaking and was very much appreciated by the organisers of the Easter Raffle. Please pass on our thank you’s Kim to all your mums who helped you out. To all the families and kids who purchased raffle tickets you helped your school P&C raise an amazing $1,500 of which will be turned into resources for our school.
INTERSCHOOL SPORT SHIRTS
P&C this term have approved more funds, $1,500 to go towards purchasing more of the fabulous sports shirts we funded last year for Mr P, the ones we had before certainly needed an upgrade I think you’ll also agree the students do feel and look the part at all of their school sports events. If you find any of them come home in error, please return them to school the next day.
As always you can keep updated via our dedicated fb page
https://www.facebook.com/landsdaleprimaryschoolpandc/
If you too would like to get involved please get in touch! We welcome everyone to join our P&C community no matter how big or small every contribution helps makes the team a successful one.
Our next meeting is Tues 12th June.
Cheers,
Nat H
Parent Workshop – Wednesday 16th May
Paul, Laura and Katherina from Currambine Psychology presented to a group of parents last Wednesday on the topics of Mindfulness for Children, Bullying and Difference and Dealing with the Stresses of being a Parent. It was a really informative evening and highlighted some different ways that we as parents can cope with raising our children as well as ways to help our children. Below are a couple of take home messages for me.
- Talk about the behaviour before acting (reacting) to try and understand the underlying factors.
- Our first action is often deprive – don’t deprive children of their purpose and passion.
- Social disconnection – may cause more harm.
- Telling our children, it’s ok to be different and your difference may be a strength.
- Five finger activity – tell me five good things about yourself.
All the presentations are available on line for parents who were unable to attend. Paul also has a number of mindfulness meditations that are available to download for free.

We would like to run more workshops and seminars for parents and value your feedback. Please send any suggestions through to me at dkbull01@bigpond.com . Currently we are looking to try and organise sessions around protective behaviours, cybersafety and parent wellbeing.
