19 December 2019
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
The end of the year has finally come around, and we are now heading into a new decade, the roaring twenties! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our school community for your unwavering support of the staff and administration at Landsdale PS. We have had a very busy, yet productive year that has seen our NAPLAN data tracking nicely upward, with outstanding achievement identified in several areas. We have had a focus on gathering data around student mental health and wellbeing through the Rumbles Quest App, which will support us in our planning for 2020. We have enjoyed the building of a new nature playground extension, the amazing engagement of families with the Wheelers E-Book library, the growth and strength of the school’s tennis program, and our creative Visual Arts program that has seen a gorgeous Year 6 gift to the school installed on the western wall of the under covered area.
2020 will bring with it new, exciting experiences for our school, as we begin the process of fitting out a designated science lab for the students, that will allow for more targeted science and STEM teaching, the appointment of a new Principal from Term 2, and a focus on student and staff mental health and wellbeing. So lots happening.
From a school management point of view, parents are reminded of the following information before the new school year begins:
- Staff will be undertaking professional learning on Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th and Friday 31st of January 2020.
- Class lists will be available for parents on Friday 31st January.
- Swimming lessons for Year 5/6’s at the beach will be happening in Week 1.
- Parent Information Sessions for classes will be happening during Weeks 2-4.
Wishing all our Landsdale families a wonderful Christmas, happy and safe New Year, and relaxing holiday break.
Mrs Cass Disisto

2020 Parent Funded1-1 Laptop Program
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Information forums. We had really productive discussions. The parents were really supportive of their child’s educational needs and understood the importance of learning to use technology safely and appropriately.
The main points that were discussed were:
- How we use the Mac books for learning tasks that promote original thinking, engagement and creativity but also reinforce mastery of skills and understanding. Instant feedback is also given to teachers and students for better progress.
- What procedures and plans are in place to teach students how to have a positive digital footprint and use technology ethically.
- While parents are able to choose an iPad for their child to join the program, our recommended device is the Macbook Air 13” as it is more powerful and versatile for learning situations, sturdier and connects more easily to the network.
- Parental controls and managing devices through a mobile device manager (MDM) for a safer and more monitored environment. The Macbook has better parental controls built in and the iPad would need the third party mobile device management (MDM) tool, which we use for our school iPads and could be provided at a small cost to parents.
- Information on the vendor and specifics about the program. The Portal is available for you to access pricing and device specifications information and order your device.
We partner with Winthrop Australia to obtain the best educational prices and onsite technical support. They provide a convenient and easy online portal for you to order a device for your child. If you source a device elsewhere consider the portal information to compare accurately. Visit the Winthrop Portal for more information. For security reasons you will need a passcode to access the Portal which will be in the information package that will be given to you at the parent information forum, or if you didn’t receive this, please contact the school for the code.
If you would like more information please visit our website for 1-1 Program news and FAQ or contact the school.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE & MERRY CHRISTMAS
Keep your children reading over the summer break and enter the Joondalup Library Summer Reading Challenge. Pick up a reading log from your local library.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our students and parents. Thank you to you all for a wonderful 2019 in the Library. A special thanks to all our parents who assisted with book covering, Book Club and Book Fair.
Just a reminder that all library books should have been returned by the close of school today, Thursday 19th December. Your child will not be able to borrow library books next year unless their 2019 books are returned or paid for.
Have a wonderful summer break and we’ll see you back again in 2020.

Hot Shots!
Another fantastic day was held at the State Tennis Centre last Wednesday, December 11. Thirty six year 3 and 4 students played some excellent tennis is warm conditions. Landsdale again continued to improve with all four teams coming away with at least 3 wins. Thanks to the team at Tennis West for organising another great day and modifying the matches to manage the heat. Thanks to the crowd of parents that came along and all those that acted as supervisors for a team - without you we couldn’t field such a strong presence at this event! It is really pleasing to see the way students have embraced a tennis culture throughout the school. Keep an eye out for a Hot Shots Faction competition next year!
