Assemblies

As with earlier correspondence to parents we have recommenced our assemblies, however, we have to take into consideration the requirements of the current stage 4 COVID restrictions on the number of adults that may be in one inside area. As a result of this we have limited the number of visitors at school assemblies.

For the present (subject to change at any time dependent on changes to WA Government regulations and support from families to adhere to the school’s request) we will only have two attendees for each student in the presenting class, and two attendees for each student who is receiving an award presented at the assembly.

Assemblies will be weekly commencing at 2pm on Wednesday and concluding at 2:30pm (Early Close). A Junior and Senior Assembly will alternate on a weekly basis except for the first two assemblies which will both be senior (i.e. 24th February and 3rd March). Please refer to the school calendar of other assembly dates.

School Development Day

This Friday (26th February) the Ashdale Cluster of Schools have scheduled a school development day (pupil free). Staff at Landsdale Primary School will be working on Operational Planning for 2021 which will include the analysis of information collected from the Parent and Student surveys that were sent out at the end of last year. This information will help us inform our directions for the rest of 2021.

Student Leadership

On Tuesday and Thursday of this week the year 5 and 6 students participated in an “Aspire Higher" incursion run by UPP (Unleashing Personal Potential). This was an engaging leadership and resilience training program specifically designed for upper primary students. The students were required to participate in a range of dynamic team building activities that encouraged them to recognise what type of leader they are, use their initiative and problem solve as a team. This incursion forms part of our approach to promoting student leadership across the school.

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

1-1 Laptop Program 2021

Thank you to all the parents of Year Four and new students in Year 5 or 6 who have joined, or are in the process of joining, the program this year. Teachers and students have established agreements that will give the grounding for high standards of self-regulation at school and safety online. These agreements have been sent home for parents to read and sign to keep you informed about student’s commitment to responsible and appropriate use of technology and communication tools. To help keep informed about digital citizenship and online safety visit our digital citizenship page on our website.

Our first “hands on” introduction to Macbook workshop is to be held today, 25th Feb in the library at 4:00-5:30pm. If you can’t attend this session another will be held in Term 2 if required.

If you have questions regarding the 1-1 Program, our website has information and Frequently Asked Questions to assist you or call the school for more information.

The technical aspects of the program are also being established in the first couple of weeks. When you bring your laptop in to school the technicians “image” them. This means settings and software that are school specific are put onto the laptops to ensure a safer and more effective experience.

When the machines are imaged, a note is sent home with information regarding setting up passwords and home wireless, more information and “how to” tutorials can be found on the Apple Support site. We have a technician onsite every day except Wednesday. Your child is able to let the technician know of any issues with their machine by logging a job on the Helpdesk which you can access through the Helpdesk link on our website home page or by informing their teacher.

If your child is bringing in an iPad, a list of essential Apps and some information regarding their use at school will be sent home soon.

Library News

LIBRARY NOW OPEN!

Welcome back! The Library @ Landsdale is now open for student and parent book borrowing. We look forward to seeing our returning students and meeting families that are new to our school. The Library is a fun place to visit, as you will quickly discover! We hope to see you soon.

The closing date for the return of all library books this term will be

Friday 26th March, 2021 (Week 8)

Opening Times

The Library is open for book borrowing at these times:

  • Before school 8.30-8.45am Mon-Fri
  • Lunchtime 1.25-1.45pm Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri (Closed Wed)
  • After school 3.00-3.30pm Mon-Fri

All 32 classes have a weekly “Library Book Change Time” organised by their class teacher. Please check your child’s rostered borrowing day with their class teacher and assist them with remembering their library book and library bag on that day.

Parents/caregivers are most welcome to visit the Library with their child to borrow books before or after school, or at any time during the school day. While here, you may wish to browse through our range of LEAP (Linking Education and Parents) parenting resources which are available for loan. Parents can also sign up to become Library members.

Lending Rules

Students may borrow two books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed if not required by other readers. Overdue notices are sent to classrooms every week. Please remind your child to return his/her library books by the due date. Library bags must be used for borrowing. These are available from the Uniform Shop and department stores. Shopping bags are also suitable to use as library bags.

Outstanding Loans from 2020

At the end of last year, we had 28 library books that were not returned, valued at $308.34. Invoices have been sent home to these families. Unfortunately, students who have not returned their 2020 library books will not be able to take books home from the Library this year, until these items are sent back or paid for at the Front Office.

WA Young Readers’ Book Award

It’s WAYRBA time again! The WA Young Readers’ Book Award is an annual event that encourages children to read and vote on a range of short-listed books by top authors and illustrators. The Library now has a display of these books, on the slat wall area. Children can borrow the WAYRBA books and vote on them by filling out the voting slip inside the book cover. They can keep the bookmark that is inside the book. Voting can also be done online. This year’s titles are suitable for all age levels and reading abilities. We would love to see all our borrowers reading and voting on the WAYRBA list of 30 books.

From now until the end of September, we are offering an incentive for students to participate in this event. Every time they read and vote on one of the Award books, their name goes into the draw to win a Scholastic Book Club voucher to the value of $25. The prize will be drawn when voting closes at the end of September. Please return completed voting slips to Mrs Murray in the Library, so the votes can be recorded and entered into the draw.

Your child for vote for any of the WAYRBA shortlisted books they have read, by clicking on the link below:

Art News …. With Mrs Callow

The graduating class of year 6 2020 were determined not to be forgotten by Landsdale Primary School. In their last few Art lessons, they created a box full of 'Kindness rocks' which display positive messages and images they wanted to pass on to the younger years. The kindness rocks will be hidden around school by the current Art committee over the next few weeks. If you find one you may keep it or choose to re-hide it around school. Happy hunting! Mrs Callow.

CANTEEN INFORMATION

Canteen Manager: Sue Uyen
Phone: 0410 894 457
Opening hours: 8:30am to 1:45pm

We have some wonderful ideas and creations coming for you this term. We will be doing a Wednesday Special EVERY week! These will be on Qkr to preorder and advertised on the P&C FB page the Sunday prior, please watch out for these!

Mid-Term Sausage Sizzles are back for the year. Please watch out for the information sent home each term so you know which week these will fall in.

Emergency lunches happen from time to time and we will never let a student go hungry. If your child comes home with a note from the canteen, the amount can be paid cash the next day or on Qkr via the accounts to pay menu.

Recess specials are becoming more and more popular as much as the special treat of an ice cream for lunch, it’s great to see familiar faces lining up at recess for in house made vegemite or spinach & feta scrolls, chicken wings, wedges as well as the cheesie. Favourites are back already from last year and we encourage families to ask the kids what they had at recess and see what yummy things they are getting at school that they would be at home.

We are getting on board with Waste Free Wednesday’s! To help the students in their quest to lower school waste we will be providing the Wednesday Special ONLY on reuseable plates/bowls and asking parents to provide a BYO fork for the day. Due to health regulations and ability, we will be asking each student to come and collect their lunch from the canteen on that day who ordered the special only. We are trialling this first and if all goes well we will look at increasing the items served waste free. For now, we wish to make sure all goes smoothly first, whilst it’s not new to collect lunch from the canteen (students need to collect soups in Winter) it will be good practice for the students to line up and for us to see the demand.

With last year’s profits made in the canteen, we are purchasing a new double door glass fridge for the canteen! Thank you to the P&C for recognising the need with the approval at the last meeting and thank you to all of our families for your continued support of the canteen, without your purchases these larger items would never be possible.

Kiss & Drive

Thank you to all the parents that have so far volunteered to help manage Kiss and Drive. We cannot do this without your help. We have filled the roster for the next two weeks. I still require at least 15 more volunteer parents from Years 5 & 6 to cover the 1st Term roster from 8th March to 2nd April 2021. If you haven’t done Kiss and Drive helping before and are unsure of what is required, please do not hesitate to contact your Kiss and Drive Co-ordinator, Darshana Kika, on lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com.

We also require volunteers from Year 3 & 4 parents to cover Term 2 from 19th April to 2nd July. You can start putting your names in from now.

Please remember that the Kiss and Drive and traffic wardens have been designed for your child’s safety. Only use the designated Kiss and Drive Zone on The Broadview to drop off and pick up your children. We have noticed parents temporarily parking opposite the gates on Warradale Terrace and letting their children jump out of the car and cross the road. This presents a real safety hazard. Use of this gate requires parents to park their vehicles in designated parking bays.

Once again thank you very much for the time you are volunteering for this project to be a success.
