1 December 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As the year is winding up it is a timely reminder that we all need to follow the rules about parking around the school. All schools face the same challenges with student drop off and pick up. I need to remind families that the staff carpark, service bay and dental clinic carparks are not for student drop off and pickup. Kiss and Ride out the front of the school is a timely way to drop off and collect your child, without the need to park your car. Kiss and Ride can be used by students in years 1-6.
The year 6 students have just finished a week of beach swimming, this week the year 5’s are doing their 5 days of beach swimming. In weeks 9 and 10 the year 1-4 classes will be participating in pool lessons at Aquamotion. It’s important that young children are given the opportunity to learn to swim. Participating in school lessons is a very cost-effective way of developing these vital life skills. I encourage you to get your paperwork and payments in promptly.
Year 6 students who are attending Ashdale Secondary College in 2023 are participating in a 2 day transition program on Thursday 1/12 and Friday 2/12. Students are dropped off and picked up from the college each day.
The teaching staff are finalising semester 2 reports, these will be emailed to parents in week 10. If you have changed your email details recently, please get in touch with the school office to update, that will ensure you receive your child’s report. As a reminder the report link has a limited time span, if you would like a copy please print it out or save it for future reference.
Have a safe week.
Kind Regards,
Natalie Bracegirdle

BYOD Ipad/MacBook Program
This term, we are undertaking many preparations for next year to ensure that the start of 2023 is a positive one for students, parents and staff.
One of the exciting things for the students going into Year 4 in 2023 is the BYOD iPad/MacBook Program. Parents are invited to purchase an iPad or MacBook for their child to enhance their learning experience both at school and at home. Our program has transformed the teaching and learning pedagogy, enabling teachers to implement highly refined, engaging and individual programs through the use of student devices and a broad range of high impact instructional strategies.
We would like to provide more information about the details and efficacy of the program to parents of our Year 3 students at our Parent BYOD Information Forums. We also invite any parents from other year levels who would like to attend. Thank you to the parents who came to the first Parent Information Forum, their feedback was that it was valuable for them to see how teachers use the devices in the class and to have all their questions answered regarding the details of the program. We have 1 Forum still to come this term, to be held in the Library:
Monday 5th Dec @ 4.30pm-5.30pm
An information booklet containing all the relevant information has been sent home to all Year 3 students’ families and will also be available on the website. The forums will enable you to ask clarifying questions and see how students are using the devices.

Global Warming & Climate Change Save the World Project by LA27

Did you know that there's more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere than at any other time in human history? Do you know why? Do you know how this affects climate change and the Earth warming? Did you know the temperature is going up much more rapidly?
Do you know the target that all the governments in the world are trying to keep the average global temperature below? It is 1.5 degrees centigrade. We are already above an increase of 1 degree centigrade.
The nine years from 2013 through 2021 rank among the 10 warmest years on record.
Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.

Please help us to find out what is happening in our local community so we can give you simple, easy ways to help reduce carbon emissions that increase global warming and climate change problems.
Please complete our survey as soon as you can and circulate it to other friends.

SAVING THE WORLD PROJECT 1: Climate Change & Global Warming
In LA 27 we are starting a 3-week project to begin changing the world so that we reduce the negative effect of our Earth warming too fast. To help us give you information and ideas for your family, we need to ask you some questions to find out about the current situation. Please help us by completing this short survey.

Library Borrowing Closes Tomorrow!
The final day for return of all library books is tomorrow, Friday 2nd December (Week 8). As we have swimming in the last two weeks of term, it is important that students return their library books prior to their swimming sessions. Parent loans are also due back by Friday 2nd December. There are no Christmas holiday loans over the summer break. However, your child can still access our Landsdale Digital Library (see below).
Encourage Reading Over the Summer Break with Wheelers ePlatform
With the festive season just around the corner, summer reading is an important, enjoyable activity that students can do during the holidays to help avoid the 'Summer Slide' in reading achievements gained during the school year.
Our digital collection of eBooks & Audiobooks are fun, portable, can involve the whole family over the holidays and will help students academically. Audiobooks are great for long car journeys. Reluctant readers can enjoy the story no matter what their ability, or the whole family can listen together.
Landsdale Primary School students have access to borrow books 24/7. Our Digital Library never closes!
Please see the PDF below for instructions to parents on how you can assist your child to access the Landsdale Digital Library over the Christmas holidays.
And here’s a few more practical tips and tricks to get you started and keep you reading throughout the summer:
- Make sure your devices are charged before you get comfy.
- Download books in Wi-Fi spaces or before you go camping with unstable connections.
- Use the ‘Settings Wizard’ comfort reading options to suit your needs.
Parents, you can help ensure your children are finding their perfect comfort setting for reading on a device. It’s simple. It only takes two minutes and is something you can do together. Once set it remains with the student’s login no matter what device they read on.
These settings were created especially for dyslexic and visually impaired readers but can enhance every reader’s experience.
Happy Summer Reading!
